Descartes lived for a year at Egmond aan de Hoef, close to the ruins of the castle of Egmond. In the garden of the surviving castle chapel, a bust of Descartes was formally unveiled on December 4, 2020. The placement of the bronze bust, made by the Egmond sculptor Fabio Pravisani, is the result of the efforts by Peter van den Berg, who in recent years has conducted many hours of research into Descartes’ stay at Egmond-Binnen and Egmond aan de Hoef, resulting in various publications.
